100 Follower Giveaway - or Should I Say QUILTAWAY!

I've been looking forward to this post for a little while now.  A couple months ago, I realized that within my stash I had a group of fabrics that accidentally went together beautifully for a quilt and decided that I would use them to make one for one of you.  With time running out before school starts for me, I knew it had to be on the simpler side and this is what I came up with...

I named it Over the Garden Gate.  The white bars remind me of a fence and the color combinations remind me of a flower garden.  I also was trying to capture the feeling of how, as we click our way through blogs and link parties, it can feel like we are peeking into someone else's craft room or living room or kitchen - just stopping by for a minute to chat before heading out to the next link down the street.  There is a sense of community out there that I just wasn't expecting to find at the outset.

I all but stumbled into blogging at the end of May, basically deciding I wanted to do it because I found out there was something called the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  What I could not have known was what a warm, generous and creative group of people I would find on my travels through blog-land and how the very act of blogging itself would push my creativity and give that part of my life focus, definition and goals.  As I was cutting and sewing and quilting this quilt, I was thinking about the many comments I've gotten from some of you on my various projects, your insights into your own crafts and some of the beautiful things you guys have made and shared on your blogs.  It is amazing to me how we just keep putting ourselves and our projects out there and how often someone has something lovely to share with us because of it.  This quilt is for each of you, even if I could only make one.

On a personal level, it's nice to finally have a group of individuals that are truly interested in all of my crafts and not just humoring me because I just dragged them up to my craft room, again, to show them things that they just don't get or can't understand the amount of hours I just "lost" creating whatever it was.  I thank you and my friends and family thank you.  :)

I decided to give the back a little interest using some of the scraps from the top.

The quilting is difficult to see in photos since it is white on white, but it's an all-over meandering pattern.  I originally planned on quilting it more tightly, but I used a higher-loft batting and I thought it looked better more widely spaced.  I finished the binding by hand.

The quilt measures 62" x 76".

This quilt is washed and ready to be sent to one of you.  It still needs a label and I promise it will have one before I send it out.  I just haven't decided what I want it to say yet.

Thanks for reading my blog and a special thank you to all of my followers - you make blogging fun.  :)

Here are the giveaway quiltaway rules...

You have 3 chances to enter.  Each comment is considered an entry (no more than three per person):

1. Leave a comment about this quilt or what you might do with it if you win it or about what blogging has meant to you.

2. Become a follower.  Just leave a comment, whether you're a new follower or old, just saying that you are one.

3. Blog about this quiltaway or post one of my buttons (located in my sidebar) on your blog.  Let me know which you did and post the link in the comment.

Please make sure there is a way for me to contact you by email!  This quiltaway will run from now through Sunday, September 12th at 6:00pm.  The winner will be drawn by random number generator and announced Monday, September 12th at 9:00am.

GOOD LUCK!!  I hope YOU win!

This is a beautiful quilt. my favorite part of a quilt is always the topstitching - maybe i'm mystified because i've never done it! I've been blogging in general for about 6 years, but i only started my sewing blog over the past couple of months.

I'm a follower! I just love your quilt. Immediately when I saw it my MOM came to my mind. She did everything homemade down to our little clothes for our barbies when I was growing up. She was an amazing woman to raise 21 kids in a little southern town. She passed away when I was young, and these kinds of things keeps her memories alive for me. Hope I'm the lucky winner so that I can snug up with her memories and your quilt.

I grabbed a button and put it on my blog. This quilt is georgeous! I love the colors. The possibilities of use are endless, but I think would just enjoy wrapping up in it and sipping hot chocolate during the cold, winter months.

What a beautiful quilt. If it were mine, I would drape it over the sitting chair in my bedroom, so I could snuggle up in it when the weather turns cold again!

I just saw your "quiltaway" on Shirley's blog and am shamelessly here wanting it for myself!! If I were the lucky winner, I would sleep under it! I grew up sleeping under quilts made by my great grandmother. My favorite was a crazy quilt that, after keeping me warm for decades, finally disintegrated but not before I salvaged a small piece to frame!

Best,
Bonnie

What an amazing quilt! My grandmother was a quilter, but she died before she could teach me. My cousin (who is much older) passed on some of her knowledge, but I feel that some things were probably lost. Now as I start my journey into sewing and quilting, I feel a connection to my past that I never felt before! It is so wonderful!!

First of all, I love the quilt and the name; it's just inspiring. I would use this quilt to wrap up my little family during story time/cosy-time before bed and also for long picnic lunches, as a quilt named for a garden just seems like it belongs outside.

Blogging means so much to me--It's an escape from the hardships of life, a way to connect to people I might never meet otherwise, and a way to express myself comfortably in a way that I would never be able to accomplish through verbal communication.

This quilt is amazing! Are you sure you want to give it away? Beautiful color combos and I just love the extra detail on the back. perfect. This would make a great addition to my 16 year old daughters room, who LOVES her quilts/blankets so much, she walks around the house wrapped up in them. (Even still uses the baby blanket her Grandma made her.) And snuggling up in the winter time is the best with a quilt. :)

This is such a pretty quilt. If I won I would use it to add brightness and beauty to my living room. I started blogging about a month ago for the purpose of pushing myself to find creative moments in my daily routine, and to journal about them. It's been fun.

Wow, this quilt is gorgeous. It would for sure go into my 4 year old's room, it already matches the paint in there. Something like this would be treasured for years to come.

I'm a new follower and I think this quilt is beautiful! I would use this for my guest bed in the basement because right now all that's on it is a cheap comforter I found on clearance at Target. And the colors in this quilt would match the room PERFECTLY!!!!

Hi. I am a new follower.

I would love to have this quilt in myhoe. I think I should win (hah) because my blog's name is Cozy Blanket. (hint, hint)
ANd another reason is that September 12, the day of your drawing will be my 40th wedding anniversary.
I would use it in my little sleeping room that houses my teddy bear collection and where my grands sleep.

Kim, What a beautiful quilt. I would put this masterpiece on the back of my couch so everyone could see the beautiful colors and quilting you have done. When it gets chilly I will wrap up in it and think of your generosity and love of crafting.

Oh' my gracious this quilt is just breathtaking! You did a fabulous job preparing the scraps of fabric and sewing it. The colors in the quilt are my favorites. If I had this quilt it would rest upon my soon to be window seat/bench. I would love to win this giveaway!

This quilt is stunning. I absolutely love it. I've been working on a bedroom revamp, but would totally change things around to design around this quilt! I just can't tell you how much I love it.

I love the way blogging has changed my life, your story really touched me. I started to journal our home reno, but when we were blessed with the news that we were having our son (3 months now), reno stopped, and my blog took on a whole new tone. I love the way it's developed and I love the friendships I've formed. The inspiration alone is a reason to blog, it really has changed my life and made me more creative, sharpened my mind, and I feel like a better, wife, mom, and homemaker.

I LOVE the colors in this quilt! so beautiful - it would go right on my bed :) I have a tendancy to give away every thing I make, so i have no evidence of my own quilting ability in my own room. :(

I love the look of a quilt in a home or on the bed.
