Stashbusting Sweater

A little late for Stashbusting September, but I finished the sweater for my son none-the-less.  Officially, this is the first sweater I've ever finished!  Yay, me!

Since I didn't use a pattern, I did the best I could with sizing.  Not bad, but the sleeves are a tad too long and the body of it a little wide.  I intended it to be large on him so he could wear it for longer... I'm interested to see how it will wear over time.

Again, this was my first attempt at fair-isle knitting (using two different yarns at the same time) and I kinda like it.  Getting the tension right took a little practice, but it wasn't nearly as complicated as I thought it might be.

If you have boys, I don't have to tell you what it's like to try and get a decent photo of a moving target.  The first day I tried to get pics of him in it outside and he took off on me to go play with these girls down the street - way more fun than mommy with a camera.

A Thomas book got him to sit still long enough to take these.  The sleeves are rolled once in all of these pics.

  1. Very sweet. Great effort with the fair isle for the first time. It's lovely the way you've made it as a feature across the front.

  2. WOW, that sweater is BEAUTIFUL! You did a fanastic job on it, plus I love the colors...the blues, browns. There is something more beautiful than the sweater though -- YOUR SON! He is adorable and looks so handsome in the gorgeous sweater his Mom made for him. Love the pic of him reading in the sun...
Great job, Cecily - on sweater and photos! :)
    Best,

  9. You've done a brilliant job. The sweater looks great on your son. I love how the yarn picks up his color of pants and I really like the chest design.

  11. Wonderful first COMPLETED sweater!

I'm even more impressed that you have your son wearing it. I don't know how many sweaters I made for my boys only to have them decide they were too itchy, too hot, too un-cool, too (insert negative comment here!).

  15. Fantastic for no sweater pattern! That's what I'm doing with my reconstruction sweater for my son--top down and fit it as I go.

Have a great weekend! Sorry I'm a day behind this week with getting through my Friday visiting.

Also, I wanted to stop by to let you know that I linked up your blog on SITS today. They were asking about our "Best Kept Secret", and even though your blog certainly isn't a secret, I figured showing you off to the 7000+ SITS members couldn't hurt!

  23. It's great and congrats on finishing your first sweater. My mom has made a bunch for my daughter and she says the most important thing to a correct fit isn't the pattern but being able to eyeball it on the person it's for. Looks like a perfect fit:) Thanks for sharing with us at A Crafty Soiree! Please join us next time too!
