Scrappy Afghan


I finished my son's afghan last week, but am just now getting the time to post it.


It turned out to be a great stash-buster and my son loves it.  


He's had this Spongebob blanket that has been his comfort blanket since his first birthday and as soon as I finished this one he decided that he wanted this one with him at night instead.  Quite an honor, let me tell you.  :)


I just love the way all the random colors came together.  Looking at all that leftover yarn I really didn't think it would turn out as nicely as it did.


And since it's all acrylic yarn it washes beautifully and is surprisingly soft.


Update:  You can find more about the pattern I used to crochet it here.  Basically, it's a (slip stitch followed by a double crochet) repeated all the way across one row; then you double crochet in every slip stitch and slip stitch in every double all the way across the next row.  And repeat!

    Too funny. My kid wont give up his sponge bob blankie for anything. I've made him several but his little sister takes them all. Very pretty.

    Is this crocheted or knitted? I'm curious because I crochet and the stitch you did looks really neat. I'm making an afghan for my son right now as well because he's outgrown the one his great-aunt made him when he was a baby.

    It's absolutely beautiful! I love how all the colors work together....like it was all planned and not just a stash-buster.

    Oh and I know all about the special blankie. My son has a cars blanket that goes everywhere.

    Oh!!!!!!! That is just so sweet that he gave up his Spongebob blanket for yours that you made him!!!!! Wow, that must have just made your day and WEEK! And you know what? You did such a beautiful job on this pattern and the colors because he will use this for years and years and will probably even take it off to college with him!!     I love the colours! The white and black really seem to ground and coordinate all the colours. Lovely, he's a lucky little boy.
